The Housatonic River is a great place to go canoeing or kayaking. The river winds back and forth on itself as shown in the picture below. It is about 4.65 miles (one way) from the Decker Canoe Launch on New Lenox Road to Woods Pond in Lenoxdale.
Directions: The best place to park is the Decker Canoe Access on New Lenox Road in Lenox. You can put in there and canoe either downstream all the way to Woods Pond or upstream, possibly all the way to Pomeroy Avenue depending on if any trees are down. The current can be very slow when the water level is low, to moderate when the water is up. This is a popular location for local canoe racers to train. Many start paddling as soon as the ice leaves in preparation for the General Clinton Canoe 70 mile canoe race.
