Race Courses
1, 2 and 3 Lap Race Courses
Mostly single track trails.
There normally are some "technical" sections, some weeks however, there may be quite a few technical sections.
A "technical" section is a place where you are likely to go over the handlebars if you don't know what you're doing.
Each lap is approximately 3 miles long.
Kids Courses
Sometimes it's 50% dirt road, 50% grassy field.
Other times it's 50% dirt road, 50% single track trails.
One big (for kids) hill.
The course route is sometimes kids choice!
Points
Points are awarded based only on your time as compared to the winner's time.
The winner of a race category and age group gets 100 points.
The next persons points are calculated as a percent of the winners time.
DNF's get 0 points so it is probably worth fixing a flat or running your bike in.
There are 8 scheduled races in the season, your scores throughout the season will be accumulated to determine the category standings / awards at the end of the season.
You will be forced to move up to the next higher category if they are judged to be too good for the category you entered.
Forced upgrades are at the sole descretion of the race oraganizers.
Points Example #1:
The winner finishes in 9 minutes.
You finish in 5th place and you take 10 minutes.
Winner receives 100 points.
You receive 9/10 * 100 = 90 points.
Points Example #2:
The winner finishes in 9 minutes.
You finish in 10th place and you take 10 minutes.
Winner receives 100 points.
You receive 9/10 * 100 = 90 points.
Points Example #3:
The winner finishes in 9 minutes.
You finish in 2nd place and you take 18 minutes.
Winner receives 100 points.
You receive 9/18 * 100 = 50 points.
The important thing to understand is that the number of points you get depends only on how far behind the winner you are or if you are the winner, the number of points the people behind you get, depends solely on how much you beat them by!
Switching Categories
To be fair to all, if you change UP a category mid-season, only the points earned in your new category count towards season end prize points. (Think about it, if you upgrade mid-season after winning 100 pts per nite in the previous easier category, it wouldn't be fair to have those easy wins count towards a more difficult category prize.) If however you change DOWN a category mid-season, all your points will count towards season end prize regardless of what category they were earned in. Race organizers may force you to upgrade if you are dominating your category just to keep things fair for everyone else, and likewise the Race organizer may prevent you from downgrading if deemed unfair to others.
